West Don Lands Rusted Tanks

Rusted Tanks – pencil, brush pen, pen & ink and watercolour

During a walk around my neighbourhood this past fall I happened to spy a couple of old rusted industrial tanks.  The two tanks were sitting in the vacant West Don Lands.  I thought they looked striking and interesting because of their textures and colours.  And, also due to the vast grey, gravelly surroundings in contrast.  The area is slated to become a large residential area with public green space and also home of the athlete’s village for the 2015 Pan American Games.

Gary and I walked past the area a little more recently and saw that the tanks had been removed.  For now you can still see where they were in the Wikipedia link for the West Don Lands.

  • It was definitely a good idea to capture them while you still had the chance. It’s amazing how quickly landscapes change in this city nowadays. Definitely nice to document things whenever possible.

I think the second one is my favourite.

    Cheers!
